Price - FREE*

Let's start with the price as that is often a big determining factor as to whether anyone wants to read on. After all, if it's too expensive then you're going to duck out now.

For non-professional modelling then we make no charge whatsoever for our time. I know. It's crazy! We'll say it again - IT'S FREE. Any prints that you will require must be bought through Cheeseright and Morte. That makes it fair and our print prices are the same as any other photographer.

If any photographs are required to be taken on *location (i.e. anywhere other than our studio) then there is a small charge to cover the cost of moving and setting up quipment. The charge is £80 for the first hour and thereafter, we charge £40 for each additional 30 minutes.

That is a very brief outline of our pricing structure and is accurate but for more information then please refer to our terms and conditions.

Models – Choosing your Photographic Style

Interested in modelling? Need to promote yourself? Looking for portrait photography? Unsure what kind of photography you need? This page will help you decide.

Head Shots, ¾ Shots, Full Body Shots

This are terms used to indicate that the client wants a "warts and all" photograph as a true representation of facial and body features. These are really aimed at the professional market (actors, dancers, fashion models) where a "true likeness" photograph is essential. On the same lines as a passport photograph, these shots are used by theatrical agencies as an accurate reference to your facial features and the overall look of your face and body. There isn't a great deal of demand for this type of photography from our "high street" clients.

Refer to our Commercial site if this is the photography you require: http://www.cheeserightandmorte.com

Headshot - Background / Location / Composition

The key component of the headshot, as we have mentioned before, is that it is a true likeness of you. Similarly, nothing in the photograph must distract the viewer from you. Therefore, any background / location can be used providing these are not going to distract the eye away from you. Your face in front of a sea of teddy bears or a beautiful flower arrangement would be too distracting whereas a quite street scene, neutral building or anything of no distraction will be good.

Personal attire and other effects are also very important. Jewellery can be equally distracting. Whilst that Rolex looks a million dollars on your wrist make sure it doesn’t steal your scene. And this applies to earrings, necklaces, elaborate or daring clothing, outlandish headwear; unless of course you always wear these things, i.e. they are your trade mark. Remember, the photograph and you must be the same. Don’t turn up otherwise.

So what’s a portrait?

Virtually, everything else that has you and / or anything or everything you hold dear in the shot. A portrait photograph is formal, informal, can have any composition and is the most common of all photographs taken and therefore best suited for personal use. And whilst portrait photography allows the full range of artistic interpretation to be applied, the subject doesn’t have to be confined to one person. Let’s include two or more, a group, your pet, a dangerous sport, your favourite toy or all of these things together. A portrait photograph can be as colourful, confusing, competing and expressive as you want it to be.
Even after all that’s been said above, there is very little to say about the portrait style as it covers almost all personal photographic needs.

Portrait

A Portrait photograph can be formal, informal, can have any composition and is the most common of all photographic styles and therefore best suited for personal use. A portrait photograph is designed to capture the moment, a particular look, mood or feel. It will always show you at your best whether an intimate or introspective study or one that is overflowing with energy and life.

Portfolio

If you are wanting a compilation of photographs that show you in a variety of poses, situations and styles then a portfolio may be what you are after.

We can create a collection of photographs either in a similar style and / or for a particular purpose. The number of photographs is purely a matter of choice and we offer the full range of presentation products to meet your requirements. The choice is yours.

Over time you will build up a Portfolio of your very best work. Come and talk to us about the many ways in which you can expand and complement your existing portfolio. If you are starting out or new to your chosen profession why not discuss ways of kick-starting your portfolio through a range of creative photographic styles?

Whatever your starting point you will need a variety of looks and backgrounds and styles. Using the latest photographic techniques we can achieve a professional portfolio for your promotion or personal use.

Location

Shooting portraits and headshots outside extends the possibilities and opens up a whole new world of options. Natural backdrops and a variety of lighting conditions are the main differences between outside and studio locations. But a location doesn't have to mean outside. A sports hall, an old building or a barn could all provide that extra edge. Of course, written permission must be sought from the owners and / or operators before any such venues could be used.

The weather itself provides enormous variations as a backdrop - both good and dramatic. We might have to wait that little bit longer to get the right conditions but the end results will make that all worth while.

Location shooting is one of those times when patients really can bring its own rewards and provide a picture that will be treasued forever.

Where can they be taken?

Anywhere! Either outside or an indoor location of your choice but preferably within the Sheffield City limits. We do stipulate that all locations must be public spaces for which no prior arrangement or permission is necessary. This can be a park, your street, the high street, public gardens (indoor or outdoor) but would obviously not include museums, art galleries, public houses (unless you are the landlord), etc.

What should I wear?

Try to keep it simple. You can wear just about anything as long as it's simple and "works" with your look. Try to keep the jewelry to an absolute minimum as well. We want to keep the focus on you, not your earrings or necklace and this applies to the women as well. This rule also applies to your clothes. Keep it simple. Try to stay away from distracting prints, e.g. plaid, stripes and logo'd T-shirts

Remember, a good head shot really looks like you, doesn't hide pimples, warts, birthmarks and scars, looks like the photographer caught you in a moment of thought and communicates who you are through your eyes.

If none of this sounds good to you, then see PORTRAIT photography where we can apply a little artistry.

Make over

As part of our own equipement, we always carry a small but essential make-up kit which consists of neutral face powder and neutral density creams (to take the shine off the skin), disposable applicators and gloves, brushes and so on. Whilst as good as we are at applying touch-up cremes and shine reducing agents, this is a million miles away from the work a professional make-up designer can provide. And one such designer that is available through Cheeseright and Morte is Jon:

Jon was the National Educator for Versace until recently when he set up his own consultancy. He is a renowned hair and make-up artist to a wide range of high profile clients and specialises in cutting edge trends and catwalk glamour.
